why visiting China should be at the top of your bucket list

This glorious planet of ours offers holidaymakers a huge choice of viable destinations to visit, doesn’t it? In fact, we’re spoiled for choice. China, though, is a nation that deserves some serious consideration, particularly if you’re after a slightly different adventure.

China is a country that is extremely popular in general and is featured in a variety of ways in various nations around the world. For example, Chinese food is one of the most adored cuisines on earth, with Chinese restaurants populating towns and cities everywhere. Likewise, movies with a strong martial arts focus have always had a strong Chinese influence, perhaps with ancient warriors being present in a particular production like Mulan.

Even the dragon symbology and mystic temples that are associated with the nation are featured in much-loved video games like Jade Garden and Shenmue series, as well as Chinese-themed slot games like Wu Long, too. As such, it’s entirely understandable why people would want to visit a nation that is behind so much.

If you need further convincing, though, let’s assess some notable reasons why visiting China should be at the top of your list. Make no mistake about it, a vacation in China is hard to match anywhere else in the world.

A Diverse and Extremely Rich Culture

One of the many reasons why people opt for a holiday in China is due to the rich breadth of culture that is present there. One of four ancient civilizations, everything from the country’s cuisine to its language is complex.

Likewise, even the traditional martial arts that are associated with the nation, such as Kung Fu, will educate holidaymakers on Chinese culture and everything it entails. There are also things to learn about Chinese medicine, poetry, festivals, traditions, and a whole lot more.

China's Natural Wonders Are Stunning

China is packed full of nature’s finest offerings, too. From the legendary Yellow Mountains to Pandora’s floating pinnacles in Zhangjiajie, there is so much to explore in a variety of locations in the country. Other wonders that will not only wow you but result in some truly amazing photos and video footage includes Mount Everest, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Jiuzhaigou, and Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon.

Wildlife trips are big business in China, and we should say that is mixed with a healthy respect for the conservation and protection of iconic and endangered animals like the panda. Most safari-style tours tend to put ethical considerations at the heart of their offering, so you can go see tigers and pandas in national parks without concern.

The Great Wall

At over 13,000 miles in length, The Great Wall is certainly one of the most impressive human-made constructions in history. The question, however, is not whether you should see the Wall, but where you should see it. That is to say that it traverses the length of the country, taking in so many different regions and, indeed, climates.

You can, of course, see in Beijing, or near the capital, as so many other tourists do. But there are other experiences, including the sections of the Great Wall at Mutianyu, Jinshanling, Jiankou, Juyongguan, and Simatai. Some are good for families, others good for Western tourists, and others are perfect if you want to mix with the locals.

Do a little research beforehand and decide what type of experience you wish to have at the site of one of the greatest feats of human ingenuity in history.

Chinese Food Is Full of Variety

Chinese food is another draw for holidaymakers, given the deliciousness it offers through a selection of much-loved dishes. Although the Chinese food you’ve tried at home might be tasty, it potentially isn’t as authentic as you’d get in China, though.

In fact, in each region throughout the country, there is a range of delights that are worth sampling. For example, if you find yourself in Beijing, then the city’s duck is out of this world. If you’re in Shanghai, though, then Shanghainese soup dumplings are well worth devouring. Essentially, wherever you are in China, tasty and traditional food is served up.

Cities Like No Other

India recently overtook China as the world’s most populous country. Yet, there are still 1.4 billion people living there – more than the continents of Europe and North America combined. Most of the citizens live in huge cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, and Chongqing.

The cosmopolitan rhythm, luxury experiences, incredible nightlife, delectable restaurants, and stunning museums are all perfect for tourists wanting to discover the ‘real’ China. What’s more, there is a wonderful diversity to the cities, with each dancing to its own beat. From Harbin in the north to Shenzhen in the south, visiting one of the megacities of China is something that you will never forget.

A Safe Country for Tourists

China receives a lot of negative news coverage in North America and Europe. But while the Chinese government is often portrayed as a foe, it should not detract from the fact the people are welcoming and friendly to tourists. Like all countries, China is not free of crime, but it’s an incredibly safe country for tourists to visit. In fact, you might be surprised at the level of hospitality afforded to you.

Of course, you should always respect the customs when you are in a foreign country, and you should be aware that China has a zero-tolerance policy toward crime, whether it is perpetrated by tourists or a local. Still, if you respect the laws and customs, you can have confidence in a safe stay.

Shopping in China Is Excellent

A nation that is behind so many of the products we use on a daily basis, China is home to some of the best shopping areas in the world. From clothes and gadgets to suits and traditional accessories, shopping in China is brilliant. While the sizes of clothes are smaller compared to other nations, it makes up for it with a wave of exciting products that have contributed to China’s booming economy.

In terms of the best places to shop, they include the likes of Wangfujing Street in Beijing, Chunxi Road in Chengdu, and Guangzhou’s Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, although there are options pretty much everywhere.
