Beats Pill+: Are Beats Wireless Speakers Worth It?

A few years ago, when it was still known as Beats by Dr. Dre, this brand is only popular for their high-quality headphones. Then they came with an effort to give people something new when they release the now- phased out Beats by Dre BeatBox Portable in 2012. In 2013, in an attempt to give people a more portable option to listen to music the company released The Pill. In the same year, an updated version of the Pill, Beats Pill 2.0, was released.

And now, with its most recently released of the same line of product, Beats, now owned by Apple, released Beats Pill + in 2015. This product produces its most comprehensive sound yet in a Bluetooth wireless speaker that will surely not disappoint.

Beats Pill+: Are Beats Wireless Speakers Worth It?

Meet The Beats Pill +

As mentioned earlier, Beats (formerly Beats by Dr. Dre) is not known for their speakers, but for its iconic headphones – and it’s easy to see why. Even though you are not a fan of the company's expensive products, you need to admit they’re a lot the better compared to the many basic and plasticky speakers in the market. There’s no doubt that this is one of the most attractive-sounding and looking speakers that Beats has ever released.

This high-end speaker is not any kind of radical redesign of the older ones. Instead, it is a modification on the familiar look of Beats Pill. Of course, it shaped like a pill, but this newer version feels much well-made compared to its predecessors.

This speaker has four buttons: a soft rubber power button located on the left side, two buttons for volume control located on the right side, and a metal pause/play button inscribed with the company logo in the middle. The Pill+ was initially released in only white and black color, but now you can purchase it in color red and turf green.

Unlike the older Beats wireless speakers, this model can be operated through the Pill+ app, which can be downloaded in the app store for free, both iOS and Android users, although the app in the latter has limited features. But then again, the app is not necessary in order to run and use this speaker, but it allows you to connect two Pill+ models and navigate them remotely.

When it comes to battery life, Beats Pill+'s can last up to 12 hours, but this result may vary depending on the level of volume used. The speaker comes with a Lightning cable, a wall adapter, as well as a drawstring tote bag made of felt fabric. It is a shame that, at the price range like this, it doesn’t come with a 3.5mm audio cable.

On songs with strong sub-bass content, you can assure that the Pill+ offers a great sense of deep bass at reasonable volumes.

In our opinion, the sound quality is essentially really good. When set to high sound, it is clear and crisp, mids are adequately distinct, and when it comes to the bass, it is kind of unpredictably tamed. So, all in all, you cannot go wrong with Pill +.

This speaker can even produce deeper and better lows not only compared to other beats wireless speakers but also to other wireless speakers of other brands of the same price range and popularity, which produces a lot brighter sound and is also pretty louder.

Key Features:

- First Beats hardware since the acquisition of Apple
Wireless playback through app available for both iOS and Android

- Strong over a little 60 feet range

- Long battery life (12 hours)

- Charges through Lightning cable

- Additional fabric carrying bag

- Available in different colors

The Drawbacks

As you can already tell, there are not a lot of things we don’t like about this Beats speaker. Maybe one thing that bothers us a little is only the startup sound. Although it is kind of cool, it would be better to have an option to turn it off as they can get tiring to hear. We cannot say anything about the price either. This was originally priced at $299.99 but now, it is priced at less than half of its original price.

A feature they could add, however, is the ability to resist water. Many wireless speakers are available in the market advertised as waterproof or water-resistant.

Final Verdict

All in all, the Beats Pill+ is a big improvement over the previous Beats wireless speakers. Pill+ is a high-end portable Bluetooth speaker that has rich lows and offers clear output. It is built remarkably well, has an elegant design (thanks to Apple,) and has a long battery life that is also able to charge your external devices. And with those features, you will see that you are getting what you pay for. So, yes, they are worth buying.

However, if you think that the price is still too high for you, you can, of course, find another alternative that offers the same sound quality. In fact, you can find other models with more features such as water-resistance and dirt-resistance features. With that being said, it does not change the fact that this is a great speaker with good overall built an impressive performance. And if you are someone who cares a lot about the looks of your devices, then this definitely will not disappoint!

So, this is our honest review of one of the Beats wireless speakers you can find in the market. What do you think of this article? Is there anything you want to add to this article? Or perhaps you have any further questions? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below!
